Paris Saint-Germain Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen years.
