The buzz around The Game Awards was significant, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team is likely building a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
