Vehicles in Germany's City Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Police mentioned they were contacted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then found many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say early analysis suggest the substance was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.

City officials said they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

An important official said the vandalism left him without words and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
